Generative AI is quickly becoming a differentiating tool in the competitive landscape of enterprises. In a conversation with May Habib, the CEO and co-founder of Writer.com, at VB Transform 2023, Anna Griffin, the Chief Marketing Officer of Commvault, elucidated the transformative impact of generative AI on content creation and productivity.
Griffin said, "I realized how quickly ChatGPT could integrate perspectives in the marketplace and derive insights, which is incredibly valuable in fields like marketing where a lot of time, money, and energy can be expended. It has become an excellent supplementary tool for our go-to-market strategy. I was immediately captivated. At that moment, I knew that this marketing organization will incorporate generative AI into our market approach. We will have methods on how to do it and how to do it well."
Griffin reached out to Writer to implement a comprehensive corporate solution that could change the way Commvault operates.
She stated, "We knew we would be dealing with a range of very aggressive use-cases, as we are launching new products, repositioning our brand, and altering our narrative. All of these require generating a large amount of content."
Democratizing content creation, their generative AI solution enables them to rapidly produce the required content, including co-writing and customizing blogs from scratch, sending emails to sales teams for potential clients, and much more. The data is trained to understand the message the company wishes to convey in the market and is aligned with the company's SEO strategy as well as maintaining their content creation pace.
She said, "While I strongly believe in the artistry of advertising, I love the tool's ability to generate innovation. Especially when you are launching products and shaping your message, how we go to market. The tool innovates along with you. You feed it. It makes suggestions."
It's not just a powerful marketing tool; it's a crucial tool for users across the entire organization. Because it ensures that the right tone and information are used throughout the organization, users without technical writing skills can easily generate the content they need in the company's style.
In strategic planning phases and customer case studies, it also proves invaluable. It can synthesize content from interviews and discussions across multiple teams and distill it into analyses of customers, their pain points, and their perspectives on the market, products, and competitors.
She said, "You can summarize it into an executive summary for an entire report. This saves both time and effort. It will also save the industry a considerable amount of money. I still believe in the art of research and researchers, but the price you pay in synthesis and analysis is time and money. In this regard, it's also a tremendous asset."
She added that it's critically important for AI to be human-guided and human-trained. While it may replace some jobs, because content is king and this is a tool for large-scale content creation, the key is that humans need to control and supervise the process from start to finish.

Google's New Wave of AI News: Bard's Upgrade and t...

Dear readers, hello! Today, we're diving into two major AI announcements recently made by Google. Following OpenAI's extension of Code Interpreter to all ChatGPT Plus users, and Anthropic's unveiling of Claude 2, Google has reclaimed the spotlight with two major AI updates. The first is a significant update to its Large Language Model (LLM) product, Bard, allowing users to upload images for Bard to analyze. The second is the launch of Google NotebookLM, a limited-availability AI-driven note-taking service.
Starting with Bard's update. Ever since OpenAI released ChatGPT in November 2022, Google has seemed to be playing catch-up in the AI technology race. However, everything changed at the Google I/O annual conference in May 2023. CEO Sundar Pichai and other executives repeatedly mentioned "generative AI" during their two-hour keynote, as if it were a magic mantra for business success.
Clearly, this search and internet giant is wholeheartedly embracing the tech trend sweeping through Silicon Valley and the global tech industry. While Bard's user numbers haven't reached the levels of ChatGPT since its broad release at the I/O conference, its growth has been more significant recently, and today's new updates might further propel this trend.
A Google blog post published today, co-written by Bard's Product Lead Jack Krawczyk and Engineering VP Amarnag Subramanya, outlines a slew of new features for the language model, including:
  • Bard is now available in "most regions globally" and supports user prompts in 40 languages, including Arabic, Chinese, German, Hindi, and Spanish. Bard is also available in new locations like Brazil and Europe.
  • Bard can respond to users in 40 languages, which may be particularly beneficial for learning pronunciation.
  • Users can switch between five new modes to select the type of response they wish Bard to provide: Simple, Long-form, Short-form, Professional, or Casual. An example given by Google is, "You can have Bard write you a marketplace listing for a vintage armchair, then shorten the response via a dropdown menu." This feature initially will be available only in English, but Google says other languages will follow soon.
  • Bard has launched four new features to enhance productivity: Users can pin and rename conversations with Bard; export Python code to Replit and Google Colab; share responses through shareable links with their network; and use images in their prompts through Google Lens integration. The pinning feature is particularly useful as it allows users to save selected responses from Bard conversations to the left-hand side of the interface window for easy future access (without having to scroll up and down to find them).
  • Finally, Bard has integrated with Google Lens, Google's image recognition technology, allowing users to include images in their prompts. Whether you need more information about an image or help creating a caption, Bard can analyze uploaded images to assist. At the time of the blog post's publication, this feature is only available in English but plans are in place to extend it to other languages soon. Interestingly, there are already Reddit users who have successfully used Bard to solve a Google image CAPTCHA ("Select all squares with traffic lights"), adding an interesting twist to the increasingly blurred lines between humans and artificial intelligence.
Google also revealed that another announcement from the I/O conference has now graduated from internal development and use to limited public availability. Initially named "Project Tailwind," Google has rebranded the service as NotebookLM (Language Model). The name is more aligned with the service's aim: to redefine the age-old practice of note-taking.
As seen by Google's self-described "small" NotebookLM team, note-taking can be improved by automatically analyzing and finding connections between various different notes and documents, summarizing them into a clear and readable guide. NotebookLM can even go further to answer users' questions about their notes and documents, interactively, and even help users create new content.
NotebookLM is currently only available in the United States and requires waiting in a queue, but if you're in the U.S., you can sign up here.
